Letters: Boundary dispute

I found your report (Asian people 42 times more likely to be held under terror law, 24 May) fascinating – especially when I came across your breakdown of those detained for over an hour: "White people make up 19% of stops, Asian people 41%, black people 10% and others (including Middle Eastern and Chinese) 30%." When last I looked at a map, most of the Middle East and all of China were in Asia. So, if not the citizens of those parts, just who are the "Asian people" to which you refer? If the Guardian has redrawn the boundaries of the continent, perhaps you might be kind enough to let us know.

• What a revealing illustration in the obituaries section (27 May). Tucked away in the bottom corner of the cover of Time Out magazine from October 1977: "We check out how new boys Wimbledon FC are facing up to life in the lower fourth." Thirty four years later, Wimbledon (now AFC) start the same journey.

• Mention of Spooner (Letters, 27 May) reminds me again of the perils of careless pheasant plucking. Even A Banjo (same page) might concede that as far as ethics is concerned, it's usually possible to plot a spectrum of veering choice.

• The proposal to put pylons underground (Letters, 25 May) seems to have sunk. I'm sure, though, that there are many sons of toil willing to shift tons of soil rather than end up on the crapheap.

• Oh dear. What a mistake killing off Nigel has proved to be. If the Archers is ever going to break America, it should have been Ruth (Fox TV decides Cheryl's accent is not worth the risk, 27 May).

Dan Adler

Farnham, Surrey

• The Marmite-banning Danes (Report, 25 May) need to look at the Cassis de Dijon principle. Based on a 1979 judgment by the European court of justice, it means goods lawfully produced in one EU state can be sold in any other. Then again, I hate the stuff, so good on them.
