Vodafone is equipping London cabs with chargers for a range of mobiles, including iPhones and BlackBerrys
You can navigate with it and do your shopping with it. But now you can add paying for a cab to the things you can do with your phone. Vodafone is introducing a scheme that allows customers of London black cabs who find themselves short of cash for the ride home to send a text with the vehicle's licence number to a central code and the amount owed is charged to their phone account.
Vodafone is also equipping more than 500 branded cabs with chargers for a range of mobiles, including smartphones such as iPhones and BlackBerrys.
Mobile technology takes a further step on Wednesday as Orange releases a smartphone which it claims is the world's first to have an in-built biometric fingerprint reader for security purposes.
A fingerprint reader on the Motorola Atrix allows you to unlock the phone with the swipe of a finger, ensuring can only be used by the owner.
The device features a powerful 1GHz dual core processor which enables the rapid opening of web pages as well as having the capacity to show HD video, games, music and more.
Jeremy Marks, the director of security firm Spymaster, said: "Biometric fingerprint security is the best way to protect your device. This type of technology offers consumers a new level of security surpassing anything we have seen before on a smartphone."
