• Owing to updates in a report of the arrest of a third News of the World reporter in connection with allegations of telephone hacking, later editions stated that "detectives also conducted a search in the tabloid newsroom while staff were asked to decamp to a nearby bar". Staff may have decamped to a bar but detectives did not search the paper's newsroom (Unexpected arrest leaves News of the World stunned, 15 April, page 8).
• A report looked at a proposal – put out for consultation by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs – under which farmers and others holding an appropriate firearms licence could shoot badgers to reduce their numbers in areas affected by bovine TB. The story omitted to note that a special licence under the Protection of Badgers Act would also be needed (Shooting badgers to be legal under plans for 'big society cull', 14 April, page 2).
• In a recent supplement – 100 Great British Woods and Forests, part 1, 9 April – a description of cycling the Hamsterley Half Century in County Durham (Activities, page 12) said that this route ascends to 1,300m (4,300ft). A reader responded: "I don't think so; that would be 320m higher than Scafell Pike, the highest point in England. Someone would have noticed." What the route offers is 1,300 metres of climbing and descending overall.
