Cameron, May, Johnson et al have completely missed the point in trying to remove the peace camp in Parliament Square (Report, 8 April). This is a golden opportunity to show the rest of the world that non-violent protest can co-exist with the pomp of monarchy. We should be proud of what the peace camp represents, not ashamed.

• What better proof could there be of the freedom of expression in this country than a fleeting backdrop to the royal wedding of a few placards giving out an anti-government message. These pictures will be beamed out to countries where such freedom would be unthinkable. Voltaire would want them left in place.
